Toy Store for Jesus was created for the purpose of sharing the love of Jesus at Christmas.  Parents who struggle with finances in the home are concerned about how they will give their children presents on Christmas morning.  We hope to make Christmas joyful instead of stressful by offering parents the opportunity to select new toys to give their children at no cost.  They choose from many new toys they would find in local stores.

Serve

SYBA church members may volunteer in the toy store by serving as a pre-packer, registration aid, host/hostess, guest bag organizer, runner, or encourager.  Stores are held multiple days in December in Iredell, Davie and Rowan Counties.

Volunteers can serve in October and November in the SYBA offices to mail invitation letters to families, schedule appointments and shop for toys. 

Give

Any individual, church or business can donate to Toy Store for Jesus.  Donations may be financial or tangible gifts of new toys.  Here are some toys children enjoy:  

Infants: diapers, wipes, sippy cups, educational toys

Elementary: Legos, craft sets, sleeping bags, sports equipment, footballs, soccer balls, basketballs, doll sets with accessories, educational toys, games

Teens: make-up, hair accessories, craft sets, fishing gear, batteries, camping gear, jewelry, watches, age appropriate Lego sets, sports equipment, footballs, soccer balls, basketballs,

Each September, the Iredell County Fairgrounds holds a fair for the community.  Member churches serve the traveling fair workers by giving toiletry items, haircuts, laundry assistance and serve free meals.  Volunteers show God’s love by serving food and sharing the Gospel message with fair workers around the tables.

Serve

SYBA church members may volunteer to serve behind-the-scenes or with fair workers.  Volunteers can collect hygiene items, assemble toiletry bags and encourage others to donate during the summer months. 

Volunteers can serve on-site in September several ways:  give haircuts, donate meals, clean tables, transport items from SYBA offices and talk with workers.

Give

Any individual, church or business can donate to the Fair Ministry.  Church groups can sign-up to provide all of one item for all workers.  Donations may be financial or tangible. 

Here are suggestions of items you can donate:

Hygiene: shampoo, body wash, washcloths, deodorant, shaving gel, razor, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush, hand sanitizer, Kleenex

Toiletry:  laundry detergent pods 11-12 oz size packages  (no liquids), fabric softener sheets 30 – 50 in a box, quarters

with a bag of groceries?

SYBA operates a Food Pantry to serve families in the local community.

Volunteers carry food selections to the vehicles.  Everyone who comes hears the Gospel message, words of encouragement and prayer.

Anyone who needs help may request an appointment by calling Mary Jane Hoover at 704-873-4372, ext. 3.

SYBA church members may volunteer in the Food Pantry to serve families who come, stock food, clean shelves, make hygiene bags and schedule appointments.  Volunteer opportunities also are available for people who feel called to share the Gospel message and pray with families.

Suggested Items to Donate:

Food: canned meats, canned vegetables, pinto beans, chili beans, baked beans, potato dinners, pasta dinners, rice dinners, spaghetti sauce & noodles, canned fruit, corn muffin mix, soup & crackers, peanut butter & crackers, breakfast items

Toiletries:  toilet paper, shampoo, deodorant, soap, toothpaste & toothbrush

SYBA maintains a library of resources to help churches not incur the expense of purchasing for a one-time use.  These Bible study resources are available for church groups to borrow.  Studies for women, men, couples, deacons and parents include the DVD and leader guide.

SYBA has created Church Growth Grants to help churches with special needs the current budget will not permit.  If your church has a need that has gone unmet because you do not have the funds, you can apply for a grant to purchase the items or do the repairs.  Your church may need to hire a pianist, repair a roof, paint classrooms, buy Bibles, replace toys for the nursery or do a community impact project. 

To apply for grant funds, submit answers to these four questions to Noel Williamson who will submit the request to the Board of Directors to decide if SYBA can assist in funding.  Requests are granted if need is established and funds are available.

1. Describe your project need and how it will impact the Kingdom.
2. What is the total cost of the project?
3. How much is your church willing to invest in the project?
4. How much are you asking SYBA to grant for the project?

SYBA is an association of churches whose pastors support one another, encourage one another and celebrate what God is doing through each congregation. 

Pastors are better together. 

Pastor Gatherings

Pastors are invited to quarterly lunches to fellowship, share ideas and pray together.  Lunch is provided in a local restaurant and guest speakers occasionally share a topic of interest.  The Gatherings give pastors the opportunity to hear what is happening in other churches. 

Pastor Prayer Meetings

The Executive Director holds a prayer meeting on Wednesday mornings at 8:00 a.m. for ministerial staff to pray together for their churches, community and personal needs.  All pastors are invited to participate.  Locations announced in the Pastors E-News each month.
